  • Description:  The Andalusian horse, or Pura Raza Española (PRE), is a historic Spanish riding horse known for its elegance, intelligence, and versatility. The Andalusian horse originates from the Iberian Peninsula, with ancestors dating back to prehistoric times, around 20,000–30,000 BC, as evidenced by cave paintings in southern Spain. Recognized as a distinct breed since the 15th century, it was prized as a war horse and a mount for nobility across Europe. Carthusian monks helped preserve the breed, and the Spanish government historically used Andalusians as diplomatic gifts. Despite population declines in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the breed has recovered and now has over 185,000 registered horses worldwide.
