  • Description:  How to tell a white rhinoceros from a black rhinoceros? And it's not by their color. The names "white" and "black" are thought to have originated from a language mixup. The Dutch word "wijd" means "wide" in English, and English-speaking settlers in South Africa mistranslated it for "white". The white rhinoceros has a very wide mouth and is substantially larger than the black rhinoceros that has a narrow mouth.
